Huh, what an interesting question.
It was pretty standard stuff, but I guess even that's up for debate depending on your world.

I guess, before everything went to shit, it was pretty lively. Cross-cultural with a big mix of different genres. I was super into the southern rock for a while... Anything that gives that good laid-back feeling a local dive bar has, you know?

But yeah, where I grew up was just culturally opening up to the world and taking in a lot of different influences with it—often mixing it up with the traditional stuff that a lot of the older generations knew.

In a way, it's kind of a lot like how music is here! More Chinese influence than Japanese, I guess?

How about you? What was the music in your world like?

From what you were able to describe to me, there are some elements I would consider "modern" from my world, but the way your world operates is still a far cry from what I'm used to.
We have "Chinatowns" in various places and that's just in the country I live in.

As for music in my world... Well. There are definitely a lot of genres that can be defined by era, vibe, instruments, culture, etc.
Definitely more complex than I'm ready to type out.

Not going to lie, it still feels weird to me knowing that there are worlds out there where youkai don't exist.

[Jigoku-Cho was quite similar to his world in many ways. More lively, surprisingly less dangerous, and brighter and louder for sure. But it was similar. He was just about to type up a passing question about whatever the hell "China-Town" was supposed to be when something else caught his attention instead.]

And a lot of music that gets produced ends up on the internet where I'm from, I figured it wasn't a big stretch to find some remnants.

It's nice to find some familiar things from home.
